The Governments of Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have commenced the development of the International Mangrove Research Center (IMRC) at the Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone (KEK), marked by a groundbreaking ceremony on 19 May.
The IMRC is part of a bilateral initiative following Indonesia’s role as Chair of the Mangrove Alliance for Climate, supporting the global mission to restore and protect 15 million hectares of mangroves by 2030. The center will serve as a hub for research, innovation, and international collaboration on mangrove ecosystems.
Spanning approximately 2.5 hectares, the IMRC will be developed with sustainable and culturally responsive design principles. Backed by UAE investment and global expertise, the project reinforces Kura Kura Bali’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
